Among the swimmers were World Championship Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalist Minna Atherton, and Junior World Champioinship Bronze Medalist, Alex Grant.
The Redfins held a Family Fun Day for its members, which included clinics run throughout the day, where members swam with the swimming champions, and were coached by David Lush himself.
"I wanted it to be a fun day and an exciting experience for our swimmers to start our season. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for our club swimmers to be in the water with champion swimmers and be coached by an Olympic coach," Redfins coach the day's organise Charlie McShane said.
Originally it was David Lush who was invited to attend our day, however David thought our club would benefit from his elite performance squad attending also.
This provided the unique opportunity to swim with some of the country's best swimmers, and to receive corrections in the water.
These swimmers are all in training for the Olympic Trials early next year, to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and didn't miss a session while they were here. The team trained at the Glen Innes Aquatic Centre on Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday morning before attending the Mellings Park Opening Sunday afternoon. National level swimmers from our surrounding towns were also invited to Glen Innes to train with the elite squad. Lots of these swimmers are also in drought effected towns and face not having pools to swim in this summer due to water restrictions.
"It was fantastic to give National level kids in our area the opportunity to train with Olympic level swimmers and world championship medalists," McShane said.
Swimmers and spectators on the Sunday morning were lucky enough to witness World Champion Minna Atherton swim a 50m Backstroke in a time of 26.7 seconds, less than a second off the world record.
David Lush and his swimmers were very impressed with our facility and the fast water, and David was very happy with how his squad trained whilst here.
Redfins club president Troy Arandale praised the effort of the committee.
"An event like this doesn't just happen it takes hard work and dedication something my committee and David has plenty of," he said.
"Without the hard work and persistence of our Coach Charlie McShane, David would not of even looked at coming to Glen Innes to train."
The Glen Innes Redfins Swimming Club received a lot of support from the local council and local small businesses.
"I need to thank all the local businesses that got on board with this event and helped make it happen without their generosity," Arandale said.
The first offical club night for the Redfins was held on Monday following the Fun Day.
"To see the kids practicing and implementing what David has taught them was so rewarding," Arandale said.
Club Night continues on October 14. New members always welcome. The Redfins look forward to a positive and fun season for all.
