Rory and Tahlia Husband, Sienna and Ashton McConnell, Kyara, Chelsea and Emma McIntyre, and Cadence and Warne McShane attended the Toowoomba Open Preperation Meet hosted by the Darling Downs Swimming Association.

The meet attracted swimmers from many clubs including Toowoomba Grammar, Brisbane Grammar, Warwick, Roma, Logan, Gatton, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, University of Queensland, Waterworx, Dalby and many more.

"It was a huge meet consisting of some of the best swimmers in the state, and it was held in a 50m pool which was a new experience for a lot of our swimmers that attended," Redfins coach Charlie McShane said.

"The day was long but it was a very successful meet for all of our swimmers.

"Together we achieved 18 personal best times, which goes to show that the training that the swimmers have done since the local pool has opened has paid off."

Highlights for the swimmers are:

Rory Husband competed in six events and swam a PB in five of his swims.

He received a top 10 placing in three of his events.

Tahlia Husband also swam in six events, with an astounding 19.34 second PB in her 50m Butterfly and a 14.83 second PB in her 100m Freestyle.

For Ashton McConnell it was his first club carnival.

He swam in three events, achieved a PB in every single swim and placed top ten in all events.

This was also Sienna McConnell's first club carnival and she also swam in three events.

She had great swims and looks forward to adding more swims to her program at the next carnival.

Kyara McIntyre swam in seven events and earned herself two gold medals, a silver and a bronze, and placed in the top six in all the other events.

Chelsea McIntyre who is also new to the competitive scene made a great start with a three second PB in her race and looks forward to swimming more events at the next meet.

Emma McIntyre swam in four events, achieved three PBs and placed in the top 10 in three of her events.

Cadence McShane competed in six events, including the 400m Freestyle which she swam for the first time. Cadence came away with two PB's, two gold medals and two silver medals. She also placed in the top eight in her other events.

The youngest Redfin to compete was Warne McShane. He swam in four events achieving two PBs, a silver medal and two bronze medals.

Vanessa McIntyre said: "I would like to thank Coach Charlie for spending so much time with everybody else's children and helping them succeed.

"The club has a great team atmosphere which I hope continues and grows throughout the season."

Coach Charlie said: "It was great to have so many athletes at the first carnival."

The squad are now training hard in preparation for their next carnival in December.
