Perennial volunteer and socialite Mary Hollingworth was added to the 2019 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll at a recent Rural Women's Gathering in Walcha. The Roll recognises a growing list of 1000 volunteers who have been nominated by colleagues in the community who recognise their value.
Ms Hollingworth, who lives in Glen Innes, also volunteers at a variety of Deepwater community groups including the town's school, the playgroup and elsewhere.
And the list very much goes on.
Local MP Adam Marshall today congratulated Glen Innes' hidden treasure, saying she was a very deserving recipient.
Mary is "a driver of Glen Innes' social scene through her long term membership of Glen Innes Show Ladies Auxiliary and as an organiser of many successful community events including the 2015 Glen Innes Rural Women's Gathering and Cameron Uniting Church's Celtic Festival dinners," he said.
"These are only a few examples of Mary's efforts and she should be extremely proud of their nomination and in joining this roll of highly-regarded rural women."
The Member for Northern Tablelands and Minister for Agriculture was one of just two men who attended the opening day, with the other being Walcha Mayor Eric Noakes.
"This small gesture of appreciation is a tribute to these rural women as we continue to focus on building resilience and a rewarding future for the next generation beyond the current drought," said Mr Marshall.
"Volunteering has been shown to not only boost the local community, but also to provide opportunities for people to connect and to gain personal and practical benefits and I thank Mary for her continued contribution "
The Honour Roll was launched in 2010. Some 78 NSW women were added this year.
