Both staff and shoppers loved the foot-tapping music; those who remember it live and those in prams possibly hearing it for the first time.
The traditional Gala Night is Friday, November 22. Glen Innes Arts Council's 75th anniversary, making it the longest-running Arts Council in Australia, will be celebrated on Saturday, November 30.
This show also marks the introduction of a licensed bar for all performances.
If you even vaguely like ABBA then this show is a must-see for you and everyone you know. It features 22 of ABBA's greatest hits performed with verve and gusto by the stars and a live-wire chorus including grandparents and young bloods.
A local band, sound system and brilliant orchestration by Kath Duddy are matched by superb choreography from Lindy Alt and a set by Phil and Audrey Ratliff which includes a beach, a jetty, taverna and a second-floor bedroom. Produced by Col and Suzy Woods and directed by George Muckenschnabel and Nigel Brown, this has to be one of the Chapel Theatre's most demanding musicals ever.
The story is simple but the show is magnificent.
On Kalokairi, a romantic Greek island, young bride-to-be, Sophie Sheridan (Bree Emery) secretly reads her mother's diary and, without telling her mother, invites three men to her forthcoming wedding, hoping one of them is her father (Jay Post, Rod Murray and George Muckenschnabel).
Her single mother, Donna Sheridan (Nicole Schafer), owns a small hotel and invites the Dynamos, her former singing bandmates - wisecracking author Rosie Mulligan (Naomi Bain-Blair) and wealthy, multiple-divorcee Tanya Chesham-Leigh (Tahleia Gerlofsma).
After multiple misunderstandings and comic scenes, the musical has a happy ending for everyone - including the audience. Come along: sing, dance and enjoy!
Tickets are available on-line at giac.com.au or at Carelle's in Grey Street, Glen Innes.
