Residents of the small commune have been using a jury-rigged road after the only bridge into town was destroyed in last month's deadly Kangawalla blaze.
The Glen Innes Severn shire has advanced plans to implement works to the track to today and tomorrow. The road will be closed to allow council staff to make emergency upgrades today and tomorrow.
As a result, the Old Grafton Road is completely closed today until 7pm.
Access will be allowed on Friday despite the repairs, but minor delays should be expected.
