The veteran was one of three presented with an ambulance long service and good conduct medal for his three decades of service earlier this month.
Mr Barratt was for 20 years the controller of the Deepwater Unit and more recently the Glen Innes Severn local controller.
Fellow officers Coleen Smith and Trudy Cooper were also issued the ambulance long service and good conduct medal at the ceremony on December 7, with Ms Smith and Mr Barrett also earning 35 year SES service certificates.
All three were founding members of Deepwater's community first responders' unit, an emergency services team made up of part-timers and volunteers who help the ambulance service cover remote areas of NSW.
Glen Innes ambulance station officer John Adams paid tribute to the long-serving officers.
"The Deepwater (Community First Responders') unit is now a very integral part of the Deepwater community," he said.
"If you want proof just ask any member of the Deepwater Community.
"Brian Barratt, whilst unwell at this present time is still cracking the whip and keeping us all on our toes, even from his hospital bed."
