Police are appealing for public help to investigate after a young girl fled was allegedly approached by a unknown man in a van.

The alleged incident, which occurred around 6.45pm on New Years' Eve, occurred on Tenterfield's Rouse Street.
The 11 year old girl was sitting on the side of road, which forms part of the New England highway. A vehicle, driven by a unknown man, stopped next to her.
The man exited the vehicle and approached the girl to ask her to get into the van, police say.
She fled.

Police are now investigating the alleged incident.
They are asking for public help and would like to speak to a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 40s, with a large build, grey/brown hair and a bald spot on top of his head and a grey/brown beard.
He was last seen wearing a white singlet, light coloured jeans and black shoes.
They have also circulated a picture of a white van with a silver bullbar, dark windows and a sliding door on the passenger's side.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the van or have dashcam footage from the New England Highway, Tenterfield or the surrounding areas on New Year's Eve to contact Tenterfield Police on 02 6736 1144 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
