The biennial New England Merino Field Day will be held on Saturday around Uralla, Armidale, and Walcha.

The Field Day includes visits to some of New England's leading merino studs, plus more stud displays at the Uralla Showground.

"We have some of the most recognisable genetics in the country," secretary Janet Carter said. "Chris and Cindy Clonan from Alfoxton won last year the Australian Ram of the Year award. This is the third time this wonderful prize has found its way to the New England region.

"There are also studs which have progeny that are bench mark amongst the Australia best bloodlines. This is a great opportunity to come and have a day out, support our local studs, and see what amazing genetics are in the area."

Eleven studs will open their doors on property from 9am to 4pm. These include Alfoxton, Cressbrook, Miramoona, Mirani, Nerstane, Petali, Queenlee, Shalimar Park, Stanley Vale, Westvale and Yalgoo.

Ten studs will be on display at the Uralla Showground from 10am to 8pm: Airlie, Castlebrook, Clovernook, Glenburnie, Karori, Kurrajong Park, Lorelmo, Maister's Swamp, Waverley Downs, and Whyworry Park.

Two studs are new this year: the Pittman family from Glenburnie Merinos and Poll Merinos, and David Menzies and Helen Hine from Castlebrook Poll Merino Stud.

Two founding member studs, Mirani and Lorelmo, return this year after short breaks from the previous field days.

Coffee will be available from Uralla Showground from 9.30am. Walcha Westpac Helicopter Volunteers will provide lunch at the Uralla Showground from 11.30 to 2pm. To finish off the day, there will be a complimentary meal and drinks starting at 5pm, sponsored by AWI.
