She thought that it was about 1920 and that the gentleman on the right could be her maternal grandfather William Ross of Furracabad.
The March 1920 show was the fifty-second and the Examiner of Thursday 11 March in large print proclaimed:
"High Standard of All-round Excellence. Paramount Horse Exhibits. Eye-openers in the Pavilion. Magnificent Jumping.
"New England Defies the Drought... It is not too much to say that it passes into history as one of the finest the society has held...
"No show had been held locally for two years [due to the war and flu epidemic] and whetted appetites were the inevitable result.
"And over and above all was the feeling of release from anxiety and tension following the successful termination of the big war involving the lives and interests of so many in the community.
"People felt free to enjoy the week of carnival, and by all appearances, they did it to the full.
"But by far the greatest contributing factor was the inherent soundness of the Glen Ines district.
"New England is proverbially a solid centre and the belief was amply vindicated in the magnificent display made in practically all sections this week following on the worst drought in recorded history with only three months or even less since the rains came...
"Easily the feature of the livestock was the horse section, even after allowing for the Rangers Valley herefords."
The wool exhibit, seen here tucked amongst the arrangements of farm produce was, "notable for the tip-top quality rather than abundance.
"Very interesting displays were made in the several collections, those of Mr Walter Ross and Miss Kemp being especially attractive..."
Major J F White was president, G A Priest secretary, H Curtis Chief Steward, and Archie Turnbull and W Bull the Ring Stewards.
Their 'revered patron' W T Cadell had opened the show.
