But, after reconsideration, the NSW Office of Sport have deemed golf an activity which can be played in line with Public Health Orders.
Glen Innes' course will be re-opened and the Services Club and Golf Club manager Pat Lonergan welcomed the news.
"It is extremely good news," he said.
"At least it allows people to get out in the fresh air to be able exercise.
"I think it is good for mental health, everyone is cooped up."
There are restrictions on how golfers can take to the green and Lonergan stressed that everyone should follow the rules.
"They can only play in groups of two," he said.
"As long as they abide by the proper rules of COVID-19 - self-distancing and stick to their groups of two - it should be fine.
"The club is not open but there is hand sanitiser and you are not allowed to touch the flag no the green.
"We have put in noodles on the bottom of the cup so you dont have to reach in and get the ball out."
The re-opening of golf courses follows the Government's guidelines on people being allowed to leave home to exercise.
They said maintaining the public's physical and mental well being at the moment is as important as ever.
Although Golf NSW appreciate the updated rulings, they said it is up to each individual club as to whether they will open or close, based on their individual circumstances in relation to COVID-19.
