The Celts rocketed away in the first two quarters to have a 7.9-51 to 5.3-33 lead at half-time but the Suns weren't done.
The visitors managed to pull the deficit back to 14 points by the end of the third quarter and came agonisingly close in the final quarter.
But it was the Celts who got home, posting 9.16-70 to 10.9-69 triumph.
Under 17 coaches Glen McConnell and Barney Beatty were thrilled with the improvement shown in their young charges, most of which were only playing their second game of Australian Rules Football.
"Everyone was out on their feet, they gave it 100 per cent," McConnell said.
"The boys, that it was their second game, you could see they understood it a lot more.
"They are only getting better and better every week.
"So real happy with the way they were going, they never gave up."
The under 14 team faced the Gunnedah Bulldogs but were beaten 14.14-98 to 0.5-5.
Similarly to the under 17 team, a lot of the Celts' under 14 players were in their second game of Aussie Rules.
McConnell watched on and said they had also improved from their round one efforts.
"Was pretty much the same - the kids that were in their second game stepped up a bit more," he said.
"Had a couple of a younger kids playing that absolutely stood out, they played a lot better.
"The girls, as always, played really well.
"They played really well."
This Saturday both teams will hit the road to play Inverell.
McConnell said they suffered a few injuries against Moree and hopes to recruit a few more players in the meantime.
"We did suffer a couple of injuries in our game, we had to stretcher one guy off, he came down on his knee a bit awkward but he seems to think he will be right for this weekend," he said.
"More the merrier.
Anyone who wants to give it a try, just come down and give it a try."
The Celts teams train at King George Oval on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 4.30pm until 5.30pm.
