Residents of postcodes covering North Star, Croppa Creek, and Deepwater were announced as being exempt from restrictions on northward travel from NSW.

Member for New England Barnaby Joyce announced they would be joined by the small community of Urbenville, near Tenterfield, plus the villages of Emmaville and Torrington, both near Glen Innes.

Mr Joyce said it was a "better outcome" but said more communities should be added.

State counterpart and Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall, who said he had been bombarding the state of Queensland for changes with every means of communication at his disposal, rejected the entire logic of postcode exemptions.

"Postcodes do not reflect anything other than the mail distribution network. Postcodes are not communities of interest and postcodes cannot ever measure the true nature of homogeneous communities or where communities gravitate towards and where their service centres are."

He said the state ought to instead exempt local government areas from rules which require people traveling to the Sunshine state doing a fortnight's quarantine.

Mr Marshall said Queensland Health figures were unable to give a reasonable explanation why every border local government area could not be made part of the bubble. He speculated "there must be some other motivation" than public health behind the approach.

"Because there is not a single case in any of those border LGAs, there hasn't been for 4 months and indeed some of them have never had any cases at all."

Asked about comments by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Tuesday that "in Queensland, we have Queensland hospitals for our people" Mr Joyce condemned her "excessive parochialism".

"Parochialism is great for State of Origin Rugby League, Sheffield Shield Cricket, but it's absurd that if you have appendicitis you can't go to a hospital across an arbitrary line just up the road."

The exemptions started at 1am Thursday.
