A 55-YEAR-OLD man is set to face court over allegedly stealing cattle near Glen Innes earlier this year.

Officers from the New England Police District Rural Crime Prevention Team charged the man in relation to an incident on a Newton Boyd property in September, where four cleanskin calves were reported stolen.
Police were first called to the property on September 2, before inquiries lead investigators to the man, who was known to the property owner. On September 9, police discovered four calves, which were found to have been earmarked, branded and castrated.
They were later returned to their owner.

The Rural Crime Prevention Team's North West zone co-ordinator, Detective Sergeant Bennett Nolan said timely reporting of rural crime was key to solving cases like this.
"This investigation involved Rural Crime Investigators from New England and Coffs/Clarence Police Districts conducting inquiries at numerous properties in the Newton Boyd and Grafton areas, including obtaining samples for DNA analysis from more than 60 cattle from four different properties," Detective Sergeant Nolan said.
"It is just one example of the lengths that we will go to ensure that rural crime is thoroughly investigated and the results that can be achieved when stock theft is reported promptly," Detective Sergeant Nolan said.
The man is set to appear at Glen Innes Local Court on December 16.
