After GlenFest was unfortunately cancelled last year due to the ongoing impact of COVID, event organiser Derek Foley is pleased that the festival is able to return in March this year.
Mr Foley said the idea for GlenFest came from nothing but the idea of a music fan wanting to put something together for the older population of Glen Innes.
"GlenFest 2021 is something to look forward to," he said.
The GlenFest committee and their supporters are excited for the return of the selection of events in a bigger and better format after the recent delays and crowd restrictions.
The two-week program will include a range of entertainment.
A Companion Animal Arts Prize will run from March 1 to March 14, with shop fronts along the main street of town to be filled with the entries. There will be prizes for photography and art across many age groups, including a Mayoral Prize for best locally-submitted art.
A free Older Persons' Concert will be held on Tuesday, March 9 in the Glen Innes Town Hall to thank the older residents and tourists for their input to Glen Innes over the years.
The concert will include a restored 1920s silent movie Romancing the Surf with the score performed by multi-instrumentalist Heather Rose. Heather will be then joined on stage by Peter Harries Jnr when they will perform a collection of old favourites, some blues, jazz and honkytonk.
On Wednesday, March 10, Heather and Peter will perform their show at a local school where they will share the experience of live music with a younger audience.
An RSPCA Charity Concert on Friday, March 12 at the Glen Innes Services Club will bring upcoming and star entertainers to town with a performance of guitar, rock and disco by Kyogle's Lesa Godden and Rawnchi followed by Queensland's award-winning band Super Massive.
The Super Spectacular Show on Saturday, March 13 at the Glen Innes Bowling Club will finish the fortnight of entertainment with a bang. It will feature Lismore's Thor Phillips and to close the show will be Fiona O'Shea and the Passenger from Queensland.
Entry to all events are free, however bookings are essential due to current restrictions and limited places.
Bookings are now open on the GlenFest Events Facebook page or by calling 0421 544 047.
