With a host of new and returning faces, the Magpies posted early points and flustered their opponents through defence.
Coach Gavin Petersen labelled their performance "a very, solid grinding effort."
"Very sound defence, dominating the ruck and good line speed," he said.
"Attack was a little clunky but expected with the first hit out.
"[It was] just a very pleasing overall team performance with no real stand out."
While their defence was sound, Petersen said they will be working on "attacking shape and depth" in the lead up to their match up with reigning premiers, Moree Boomerangs.
They will also be forced to re-shuffle their side with Luke Hodgson sidelined through a concussion.
Petersen said Nick Say will move into the five-eighth position while either Jamie Watts or Ali Crossley moving to hooker.
