A group of Glen Innes residents once again all filed into their 'Nanna' to take on the Variety NSW 2021 Bash. Hitting the roads and travelling around the state, the crew had a blast - and were thrilled to help out regional schools while they were at it.
They raised roughly $5000 raised, which added to the record-breaking, largest ever total of $1.2 million.
It's turned into an annual pilgrimage for one Glen Innes crew, but the thrill of the Variety NSW Bash cannot compare to anything else.
Deb and Baz Stapleton and Tina and Hound Woolfe took on the road trip again, this year joined by Bash 'virgin' Graham Sharman.
"He heard us talking about it talking about how good it is!" Mr Woolfe laughed.
Nanna, their trusty - not rusty - 1975 HJ Kingswood, went well on the trip, and the crew were enjoying travelling around all the local region, chatting to the Examiner in Gilgai on their second day.
"We wish it was a V8 but it's only a 202. My husband's been working on blowing it up to put a V8 into it!" Mrs Woolfe joked.
The four originals got into the Bash initially when they came to a school they were working at. This year, their team raised roughly $5000, adding to the record $1.2 million all up.
"We were a little school of 25 kids. I said to Tina - we had little kids then - we so have to do this, it's great. So our kids got bigger and a little more independent and we started on this track," Mrs Stapleton explained.
And the thing that keeps them coming back is the 'Variety family'.
"We've done Tas Bash in 2019. There was only 20-odd cars in that! But it really good, got to know everyone," Mr Woolfe said.
"Because the NSW Bash the same people keep coming back, it's like a big family. The Variety family. Everyone is here for the same cause."
"It's like a holiday for a good cause." Tina added.
So far, they hadn't had any mishaps - unlike the not-to-be-relived incident in their second year, where a tire and axle flew off.
"We'd really like to thank our local sponsors who support us every year."
