Starting things off were the minor league teams facing Inverell for the last round of the season. Full reports on their matches can be found on page 13.
Then the senior league matches got underway with the Magpies hosting Ashford.
In the league tag, the Magpies soared to score a 46-4 victory.
Coach Andrew Hodgson had previously lamented his side's slow starts but said it was better against the Ashford Chicks.
"We started heaps better this time so it was better to get off to a flying start," he said.
"We had a couple of old boys that were former coaches of the league tag side, they came and had a talk to the girls before the game so it put them in good spirits and they performed well."
There wasn't much Hodgson didn't like about the effort.
"Just a couple of little errors snuck into the game but other than that I was very happy with it," he said.
"It was a big day, it was good to have both grades get convincing wins, it was good for the crowd."
The men's team also racked up a big victory, accounting for the Roosters 68-14.
Coach Gavin Petersen said they knew Ashford were understrength but he still wanted a better effort than the previous week against Narwan.
"There were a couple of things in the first-half, like defensviely, that we spoke about at half-time that we wanted to change," he said.
"We didn't let any points in the second-half so that was probably the most pleasing thing really."
He was particularly happy with the side's young players.
"Our spine, particularly our halves, are young but they are starting to click together and get some more time together which was good," Petersen said.
"A lot of our attack comes off them so seeing them starting to gel was pleasing."
Petersen is also the president of the Old Boys and was ecstatic with how the day turned out.
"We were really happy with the crowd and the support," he said.
"Some of the members of the '71 teams we were celebrating were very happy with the weekend. It was just a great day of football, seeing the minor league, senior league and old boys working in unison was fantastic for everyone to work together and get the day put together."
