This 'Experiment Farm' west of Glen Innes was established in 1902 on 1100 acres (445.154 ha).
In 1922, EC Sommerlad wrote in Land of the Beardies: "When taken up it was in its virgin state and the whole work of subdivision and development has been accomplished since.
"The choice of the area has proved in practice to have been very wisely made, and the fair average soils included make it a typical site as an experiment farm for the Northern Tablelands.
"During the period since its inception many and varied experiments have been conducted and determination arrived at of suitable varieties, breeds, and methods of connected with cereals, roots, fodder crops, grasses, fruits, cattle, sheep, pigs etc.,
"About 120 acres is now devoted to experimental work, over 500 acres to general farming and the balance to the grazing of the dairy cattle, crossbred sheep, Clydesdales, and other farm horses.
"Grasses and fodder plants are seen on trial in various plots and the grass nursery for supplying pure seed of new varieties in small quantities to farmers is an innovation that was badly required."
There was a 223-acre orchard, Ayrshire cattle and Middle Yorkshire Pig studs, sheep cross-breeding programme and even White Leghorn and Black Orpington fowls were kept, 325 'Dreadnought boys' trained there between 1912 and 1930.
The Dreadnought Scheme was established to bring youths between 15 and 18 from Britain for rural training.
The farm has hosted one of the world's longest-running crop rotation trials, in which soil carbon has been measured since 1934, and wether trials have been held since the early 1970s.
Guy Robinson and Phil Dawes wrote 'History of the Research and Advisory Station Glen Innes 1902-1989.'
It is now run by the NSW DPI to 'lead and develop a regional hub for science in collaboration that improves the growth of the grazing industries and the wider community on the Northern Tablelands, supporting cattle, sheep, cropping and pasture research'.
