A Josh Barry blitz and a second 2023/24 century to Curt Woolley has helped Don to a massive score and a big win over Wilmot in round seven of the Mersey Valley Cricket Association. Barry and Woolley went big against Wilmot at Don as the pair put on 227 for the first wicket before Barry fell for a blistering 130 from 84 balls with 14 fours and seven sixes. Woolley batted on and added 83 with Jade Doherty (22) before falling for 141 off 130 balls - 16 fours and two sixes - taking his season tally to 382 runs at 63.67. Chirs Boon bashed 50 not out from 30 balls to help the steamers to 5-401. Thomas Richards had the most success for Wilmot with 3-60. What Barry and Woolley did with the bat was backed up by Zac Habel with the ball, snapping up 7-62 in a great display as the home side ripped through Wilmot for 133. Coach James Joyce made 37 not out to offer resistance. Sassafras and Central Coast continued the season of big wins and heart stoppers with a classic at Perkins Park. The Crows won the toss and sent Sassy in, with the home side making 8/206 with Brad Green top scoring with 51 and quick late scoring from Jay Aherne who made 30 not out from 21 balls. Wickets were shared for the Crows. Aherne's late flourish proved decisive as the Crows fell three agonizing runs short, all out for 203 with two overs left to bat. Aherne capped a memorable day with 3-33 with Green taking the final wicket of Lochana Rathnayake. Tharaka Hathwella was the best with the bat for the Crows with 44. Penguin sent Spreyton in at Dial Park and the visitors posted 198 all out in the 49th over. Brendan Ward scored a quick 44 and a stubborn effort from the lower order helped the Eagles reach the defendable score. Cameron Hilfenhaus was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets before Penguin lost a pile of early wickets to be 6-47 in reply. Scott Johnstone did the early damage and ended with 4-30 but it was not over as Damien De Vries fought back with 46, Todd Deverell with 33 and Justin Bloom (32) got the home side close but not over the line. The Turners Beach middle to lower order helped get the job done over Mersey Colts at John Carey Oval. A ton from Ricky Wesselson (106), Samuel Wyllie (74) and a smash and bash effort of 45 off 19 balls from Matt Wall steered the Titans to 8-322. Jason Jones managed 3-35 for Colts. An unbeaten 68 not out by Jamie Collins was the mainstay for Colts who mustered 187 all out with Wall (3-8) and Troy Purton (3-38) sharing the bulk of the wickets.
