Glen Innes High School student Matthew Campion has come away with a bronze from the Cross Country NSW All schools 16 years division.

After completing the six kilometre course, Campion placed third in NSW CHS and fifth in All Schools at Eastern Creek on July 17.
Campion said there were 97 competitors from catholic, private, independent and public schools.
Campion competed in the Glen Innes High Cross Country, he then proceeded to Coolah for the North West trials and after coming first, he qualified for this state competition.
Although he brought home the bronze in the NSW CHS division, Campion did not make the selection time for nationals.
The finalists are chosen from the top six times in the 17’s and 16’s division to compete in an Under 18’s section.
Sports Coordinator Kirstie Fuller said Matt’s achievements were excellent.
“This is really rare,” she said.
“I can’t think of a time when we have gotten medals in cross country.
“I’m definitely really proud; he puts in a lot of effort.”
Campion is gearing up for athletics to compete in the 1500m, 3000m and the steeple chase.
Campion said he trains pretty vigorously four times a week.
“I do speed work, tempo runs and distance training,” he said.
“I just want to have a really good track season.
“I love being fit and healthy and seeing the professionals out there.”
He will also compete in the Athletics NSW 3000m championships at Homebush in November.
