Colts went into bat first on a clear day, but the threat of storms was looming over the game which played on the mind of the opening batsmen.
Glen Innes Cricket Association Publicity officer Mark Jacobs said the Colts team were aggressive from the outset.
“Colts looked like they were on a mission and played smart aggressive shots, compiling boundaries,” he said.
“They also ran well between the wickets and took singles and two’s when they presented themselves.
“Jeff Butterworth who scored 59 not out and Jarod Collins who scored 51, were the standout batsmen, but the whole team contributed to the big score of 191 at the end of their 40 overs.”
With the menace of showers subsiding Tatts looked to reel in the Colts’ total by keeping the scoreboard ticking over with regular runs.
Tatts looked good until a middle order collapse gave Colts the sniff of an upset victory.
“Tatts are the top of the table team and they had the confidence that they would reach the total but when they lost Brendan Jillett and Ed Malone for ducks it was always going to be hard for them from there,” Jacobs said.
“The entire Colts bowling attack was on target and the wickets were evenly spread amongst them but Ian Hope who took two for 26 played especially well.
“Jeff Butterworth took two for 12 and his deliveries proved hard for the Tatts team to play, he had a very good game batting and bowling exceptionally well.”
After a stellar season the loss still leaves Tatts on top of the table, but with finals looming it may have given them a reason to focus on what has made them the best team in the competition all summer.
