Goldstein announced his candidacy on his Facebook page via a video message.
“I can confirm that I am standing for the vacant NSW Legislative Council seat and now it is up to Greens members to decide who will fill that position,” he said.
“Greens rules do not allow me to promote my candidacy directly to Journalists but all that I have to say is within my video message which is available on YouTube.”
The video message outlines Mr Goldstein’s track record in spreading the Greens message throughout the New England area and he directly appeals to members to choose him to fill the vacant seat.
“Over the last few years and in two elections I have demonstrated that I can build community and voter support for the Greens in some of the most hostile and conservative settings NSW has to offer,” he said.
“I invite Greens members to consider what I could do as a full time parliamentary servant, able to campaign on issues that matter most to NSW Greens members”
During the recent federal election Greens party founder Bob Brown endorsed Mr Goldstein and said he could make a difference if elected.
