Mrs Sparks has been attending council meetings and made public submissions to council and has recently lobbied for improvements to our parks and waterways.
Sparks has lived and worked in the Glen Innes and Severn Shire for over 25 years and said if elected she will support the community as a whole.
“I have been an activist for protecting endangered species habitats and waterways,” she said.
“Having been a principal in several small retail businesses, I will be a keen advocate for council to encourage new retail and tourist orientated businesses in Glen Innes and I will also fight strongly for pothole repair of our local roads.
“I am also an active member of the NSW Rural Fire Brigade and Secretary of the Wytaliba Brigade.”
Mrs Sparks said as a local Green she has been involved with the Australia Clean-up Day and keeping Glen Innes parks clean will be one of her aims.
We found a number of cans, bottles, clothes and syringes during recent clean-up days and the town’s problem with carelessly disposed of syringes does need to be addressed,” she said.
Mrs Sparks would also like to see improvements to town water quality.
“I’d put that at the top of my agenda for council over the next four years,” she said.
“There are simple and effective measures we can take upstream of the Beardy that will reduce the need for excess chemical treatment and settling agents in our water supply.
Council has invested a large amount of money into making sure the town has an adequate supply of water, now it’s time we got serious about its quality.
- Carol Sparks
“Better quality inflows to the Beardy will reduce the costs of purifying our water, reduce our reliance on chemicals, and result in a better product that residents can enjoy straight from the tap, why should residents have to pay ongoing costs of expensive water filters or unsustainable bottled water, when we can fix our water quality problems at the source?”
“If voters want someone who will fight for them on council then I would ask them to vote for me.”
