The Risk Management Excellence Awards promote innovation in risk reduction, and recognition of that innovation while raising awareness of risk management issues within Councils across the state. The commendation was given to Council for its ongoing efforts to improve products and services. Erich Brown, Manager of Risk and Compliance, accepted the award on behalf of Council.
“Council is currently undertaking a number of activities based on the principle of continuous improvement, many of which were identified in the 2012/13 Office of Local Government’s “Promoting Better Practices” review,” Mr Brown said.
Council performed well in that review, one of the recommendations coming out of the review was to establish a Risk Management System and another to develop a Business Continuity Plan - with an organisation wide focus on training and implementation of effective risk management. An internal Risk Management Committee has also been established to guide compliance within Council.
Director of Corporate and Community Services Anna Watt said Council’s initiatives are already providing results that feed back into the Local Government Area.
