She was raised on her parents’ farm at Kookabookra with her older brother Harold and younger sister Ellen (Nell), both deceased.
The children would cut through a paddock on their way to school, being careful to avoid the bull.
Pat completed her primary education at the local Kookabookra school, and was awarded a bursary to attend Glen Innes High School.
She boarded with the Berger family, her future in-laws, in Walter Street while studying.
After finishing high school, Pat worked in a clerical position at the local courthouse.
She married Arnold Morely Berger in 1948, after his discharge from the army.
The couple were married for more than 60 years till Arnie’s death in 2011.
During this time, they lived in Church Street, Oxford Street, and finally Heron Street, all in houses Arn built.
Pat and Arn square danced, and played golf.
Pat played tennis well into mid-life, and remained an avid gardener up until the last 12 months of her life.
They never had children, but several very spoilt fur babies graced their family over the years.
Pat died on September 18, at Maranatha Aged Care, Kallangur, Queensland.
