Armidale also had a wet weekend, with 23.2mm of rain falling on the airport. Temperatures hit a low of -1.3 degrees on Sunday and remained chilly on Monday morning.
Glen Innes received 32mm of rain at the airport on Saturday, with apparent temperatures dropping to as little as -0.2 on Sunday and sticking below 20 all day for the second time this year. Winds gusts were as fast as 60km/h during the rain.
It wasn't the best rain of March for Glen Innes airport, which received 47.6mm Saturday March 9.
Residents reported in excess of 50mm in Emmaville, which missed out on the rain earlier in March. Deepwater also received more than 50mm, according to one resident.
Glen Innes is forecast to heat up at the end of the week, hitting a maximum of 24 degrees, but it's also anticipated to keep the low minimums. There is a 50/50 chance of more showers Tuesday and Friday.
Glen Innes has therefore received substantially over its average rainfall of 71.6mm for March, with over 100mm falling in the month.
Nonetheless a bone dry summer means the region is well short of average rainfall for 2019 so far. In an average year, the airport would have received some 470mm of rain. To date the town has received about two-thirds of the average.
Glen Innes does not usually experience wet winters; the average April rainfall is just 43mm. That means primary producers will likely have to wait until November or December for a break in drought conditions.
Armidale is forecast to keep the lows, with a headline minimum of about 9 but with maximum temperatures approaching 23 towards the weekend. There is a slim chance of rain through the week.
