Robert Dulhunty was awarded the biennial 2019 Gerald Carnie Memorial Award earlier this week in Broken Hill to recognise his 30 years of voluntary service.
His Landcare career, which started when he joined the the Furracabad Landcare Group in 1989 and later become an active participant of the region's district conservation group GLENRAC, reached the peak of the movement.
In 2007 he helped found Landcare NSW, and was chair from 2011 until 2018.
That organisation's CEO Dr Adrian Zammit paid tribute to the veteran conservationist.
"Rob's depth of knowledge and vision for the Landcare movement demonstrates the 'fire in the belly' he has for Landcare," he said.
"He was instrumental in the growth of his local Landcare group, helped to build Landcare in his region and took up the challenge of leading a statewide organisation to give grassroots Landcarers a voice."
The Gerald Carnie Memorial Award for Keeping the Landcare Flame Alive is issued every other year by the NSW parliamentary friends of Landcare.
Chair Dugald Saunders, Member for Dubbo said the work of Landcare is valued and appreciated.
