Siobhan Pamela Boney made no application for bail and it was formally refused in Glen Innes Local Court on charges of robbery and intimidation.
Police allege the 28-year-old confronted an elderly woman in the queue inside the Commonwealth Bank in Grey St just before midday on Tuesday.
“A short struggle occurred before the offender is alleged to have taken cash and credit card and tried to exit the bank,” Detective Inspector Ann Joy said.

“The offender was confronted by a staff member of the bank in an attempt to prevent her from leaving and at that point in time it’s alleged a number of threats were made towards the staff member.”
An off-duty officer heard calls for help and arrested the woman outside the bank before police arrived.
The woman will remain in custody until the case returns to court in October.
