Armidale will play host to a double round of representative cricket this Sunday when the first division War Veterans Cup and second tier Connolly Cup competitions make their way to town.

The War Vets team will take the field for the first time after forfeiting to Gunnedah two weeks ago.

They take on Inverell this Sunday at the Sportsground and a few young faces new to the senior representative scene have been added to the squad.

Skipper Todd Francis believes they have a good blend of experience and youth to make their impact felt.

“It looks like a decent side on paper,” he said.

“There are a few young fellas in there for the first time.

“We have a few older heads in there as well so hopefully we can guide them on the right path.

“Just let them have a good time and let their ability shine is what we're after.

“It is quite young and inexperienced, a few guys haven't played rep for a while so it should be a pretty even contest.”

Armidale’s Connolly Cup team mimics that of the top tier side with a mix of fresh faces and seasoned players.

Clarrie Moran will lead the team and said although there are some young players in the team, there won’t be any pressure placed on the newcomers.

“Pretty good, I was pretty happy with it,” he said.

“The older blokes can hopefully guide them along the way. [We will] just treat it as another game, go out and have a bit of fun as well.

“We will be as serious as we can be but make sure we are having a lot of fun while we are doing it.”

Glen Innes have picked a similar team to Armidale and skipper Andrew Symons said his team can’t afford to falter in any area of their game if they want to make an impact in the competition.

“We have some very handy bowlers and some more than capable batsmen. Everyone is in a bit of form at the moment too with the games we have played so far this year so it is looking pretty good,” he said.

“You need everyone to perform otherwise if you are not bowling well and the batsmen really click it is too hard to come back from.

“You need everyone to field well, you can save a lot of runs in the field or you can let a lot go.
