Glen Innes and Emmaville Pony Clubs have their annual camps over the New Year and early January period.
Glen Innes head into their week-long camp on December 31 with a special troop-building activity for New Year’s Eve.
The riding fun then starts with instructors coming from all over the region to guide the young riders in different disciplines.
“Hopefully we get Shane from Martin's Gully and he will come and do mounted games,” chief instructor Julie Donnelly said.
“Jackie Kiehne and Kim Harvey will be doing the jumping.
“Jane Humphries will be coming from Moree she will be doing dressage for a couple of days.
“We have Tina Clifton and Mark Clifton coming from Gunnedah and Mark is really great with the little kids and Tina with the dressage.
“We will have Codie Law and Ben Wirth doing the campdraft instruction. For our general riding we will have our locals.
“We have Hugh McLoughlin and his team coming to teach the kids arena sorting.”
Riders will be coming from as far away as Sydney and Brisbane to participate.
The club will also celebrate members who are leaving the junior age groups with a day of activities planned.
At the end of the week, clubbers will put their newly learned skills to the test when they face off for the annual camp gymkhana before the team for the annual Zone 13 Jamboree – the biggest event on the local calendar – is announced.
Emmaville Pony Clubbers head into camp on January 4.
Forty riders are expected and disciplines including flat riding, dressage, sporting, campdraft and polocrosse are expected to be catered for.
Emmaville secretary Tess Klingner said it wraps up on January 7 with the gymkhana day where a lot of non-competitive members turn out to try their had at the various events.
“The social side as much as anything plus there are some kids that don't go to any competition days so the gymkhana is a bit exciting for those kids,” she said.
Emmaville are still taking registrations for their camp and membership for the new year.
