Peter Davis, the store’s manager, said that it was TSG’s second participation in Record Day and it had gone well.
There was more business for the shop as a whole. People had been attracted by the records on the stall outside and then go in to explore other items.
Much of the attraction to the stall was in vinyl records from some of the greats, from Bruce Springsteen down.
It was part of a national drive to promote independent shops selling good music to people who like good music.
Across Australia, independent record stores were open at all hours, with live music, and crammed with customers. The promotion’s been been going for a decade now and seems to have kept small record shops in focus as the digital world cuts the ground from under them.
Peter Davis in Glen Innes said he would do it again: “It’s going to be an annual event.”
