Veterans player Errol Heagney, Masters athletes Eddie Crellin and Anthony Elliot ladies team members Kyah Heagney, Kristyl Pocock and under 17 Hamish Stewart took on the tournament in Gympie while Ken Bradley made his way there to referee.
Australia dominated, taking out every division comfortable and, from the six Glen Innes athletes, Crellin and Kyah Heagney finished with most valuable player awards.
All the Australian teams played really well,” Errol Heagney said.
“We are probably 30 per cent better than what the kiwis are at the moment.
“Everyone played pretty well from Glen Innes.
“Very proud of the Glen Innes squad that went there and so were the other coaches that went there.”
The trans-tasman contest also served as a trial for the Asian Games set for South Korea in September with Kyah and Pocock making their way into the train-on squads. Errol will coach the ladies side and, after the squad is cut down this Friday, will host a training session prior to their departure to South Korea.
