It was part of the campaign by the “Safe in our Town” group which is highlighting how bad the situation in Glen Innes compared to other places in the state.
At one stage, the town was the third worst in the whole state for men hitting women and children at home. According to the latest figures, Glen Innes has improved of late but is still way towards the wrong end of the list.
The girls from Year 9 didn’t make any overt political point in their bright chalk drawings but said they were part of the campaign.
One of them, Caroline Kerr, said: “It’s just so people are aware in the hope that it can be lessened so women and children don’t get hurt.
“They should feel safe in their own homes”.
