After a gallant effort from fourth on the ladder, the junior league tag girls have worked their way through the semi-finals to reach this Saturday’s decider.
“Such a gallant effort by the girls, their game in the semis and finals last week was fantastic to watch. True fighters that will never give up,” minor league president Adrian Bruce said.
The under 12s have toyed with the top of the ladder all season.
A flat game in the major semi saw them face Inverell on Saturday in the preliminary final.
“It’s up to them now,” Bruce said.
“They have beaten Guyra once and Guyra have beat them once and in the semis.
“I have a lot of faith in the boys, I know they’ll give it their all on Saturday.”
The under 14s came out strong on Saturday to run out winners 40-32.
“There was no stopping them, they were out to win and it was a gutsy one at that,” Bruce said.
“Their attack was courageous and if they play like that on Saturday they will be hard to beat.”
The senior league tag girls went straight through to the grand final after winning the major semi-final 10-4 against Armidale.
They will clash with a strong Armidale side again on Saturday.
“I’d just like to wish them all good luck,” Bruce said.
“It has been another great season, with six teams reaching the semi-finals and four through to the grand final.
“We are fortunate to have a great club and a great committee and I would just like to thank everyone that has helped and volunteered their time through the year and to the players for their sportsmanship.
“Up the Magpies!”
The Group 19 junior rugby league grand finals will be held at Inverell’s Kamilaroi Oval from 9am this Saturday.
