Playing at home for the first round, Glen Innes won the toss and sent the Peel Valley Bush side – made up of players from small towns surrounding Tamworth – in to bat.
It didn’t take long for the hosts to snag their first wicket with sending one of the Peel openers packing with a duck.
Peel, however, dug in and scored 46 runs before losing another wicket with Glen’s Joel Jackson making the breakthrough.
From there the wickets tumbled.
After stints in Armidale and the Coffs Harbour competition, Nick Levy returned to the fold for Glen Innes and picked up 4-39 from 9.1 overs.
The Glen side dismissed their opponents for 178 in 43.1 overs.
The team’s other wicket takers included Brandon Levy with 1-28, Jackson on 2-28 and Matt Campion with 2-27.
Stepping up to bat, Campion (23) and Ritesh Shakhawat (15) got Glen’s innings off to a solid start.
Tom Benton added 13, Jackson 3, before Tom Chard and Darren Pithers combined to easily chase down Peel’s total with 17 overs to spare.
The next round of the Connolly Cup will see Glen Innes travel to Walcha who managed a 105-run win over Armidale in round one.
