The Glen Innes Old Boys hosted the golf day to raise funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Movember.
Last week Old Boys’ president Gavin Peterson told The Glen Innes Examiner they were hoping for around 80 players to participate in the teams-of-three event but they managed even more than that.
“We ended up with 30 teams, so that's 90 golfers,” he said.
“We were really happy with the turn out, we battled through the weather and everybody had a great day.”
The Old Boys planned the inaugural event around a set target for the two charities and Peterson said they have exceeded it.
“We committed the $1500 and we are doing the $500 for the Movember campaign,” he said.
“We haven't really finalised the overall figures but there is probably going to be a little more leftover that we can distribute to a couple of local charities but we are unable to confirm exact figures at the moment, we are just waiting for a couple of things to come in.”
Serious golfers, newcomers and social players came along just for a bit of fun.
“There was a bit of a mix-match, a few golfers, some current players came out to play, members of the Old Boys and friends and family,” Peterson said.
They are already planning the next one with plenty of positive feedback.
“It was a really good day and everybody is looking forward to next year already,” Peterson said.
“There were a couple of guys that don't get here very often.
“A bloke that lived here a long time ago came over from Inverell and caught up with people he used to play with in the 70s and that sort of thing.”
The Glen Innes Old Boys formed one year ago to raise money for various charities and to put back into the local community.
It has been a successful year already and they are hoping to keep the fundraising going into next year with an event planned for the Glen Innes Cup.
“We are having a marquee at the Glen Innes Cup race day,” Peterson said.
“We are doing per head package, it will be entry, food and nibblies and includes drinks.
“We will nominate a couple of charities that we will distribute that money to but we haven't got that far yet.
“Our next meeting in a couple of weeks will target where we get those funds off to.”
