In typical Magpies fashion, the ladder leaders toughed out a win despite the Boars posing plenty of threats throughout the clash.
It was a horror start for the Boars, making errors in their two opening sets and Magpies front rower Sam Schiffmann took advantage to cross on the five minute mark. Magpies rake Guy Mepham then kicked a 40-20 with Jamie Watts capitalising.
The Boars' Walter Hickling posted the host side's first points but it took a further 15 minutes before another point was scored, Moree's Joseph Wade ensuring his team would take the lead for the first time. Magpies' Sam Swain and Tim Grob crossed for the visitors to hold a 20-12 lead at half-time.
Tries early in the second stanza to Glen's Adam Morris and Ben Schiffman extended the Magpies lead to 32-12 in the 48th minute.
Magpies young gun Ash Hogan raced away next for a length-of-the-field try before Swain brought up his brace less than 10 minutes later.
The Boars reduced the deficit to 42-24 with Stan Swan and Wade crossing again before Mepham scored a converted try at the death to push the scoreline out to 48-24. The Boars' two late tries slightly soured the win for the Magpies, but player-coach Nick Say couldn't find many more faults in their performance.
"It is a good result, not just for the boys but for the club I think," he said.
"Our discipline was spot on to be honest. We controlled the ball well, kicked to our corners and didn't give them any cheap penalties which was nice."
The Boars took the wins in the league tag and under-18 clashes.
The next fixture for the Magpies will be their Old Boys' Day on August 3 for the final round against the Boomerangs.
"A day packed full of football from under 8s all the way up to A-grade," Say said.
"It should be a good day out there and hopefully we get a good crowd to support the minor league and the senior league."
