The Magpies' Old Boys club has been steadily growing momentum since its inception less than two years ago.
It is a community-based club with plenty of fundraisers held to put money back into the Glen Innes community.
"Essentially we are more-or-less a social club that have social gatherings and outings, golf days and the like and we just raise a bit of money for local charities and local sporting clubs as well as sponsoring the kids representing the town in their respective sports," Magpies Old Boys' president Gav Peterson said.
"It doesn't have to be rugby league, netball, swimming and things like that, we contribute to the costs."
Old Boys' events begin on Friday night with a gathering at the New England Club which is open to anyone to join in.
Peterson said they have people travelling from interstate visiting for the weekend.
"There are a few of the '89ers from the '89 grand final coming to town for the weekend so there are a few of them coming," he said.
"We have a few from the Gold Coast and Brisbane, Grafton, I think there is one or two from Newcastle as well.
"There are still quite a few from in and around town as well that are going to come and watch the day as well, that probably haven't been to the football for a while.
"We do have one of our members from the '59 side coming over for the weekend, that is Johnny Berger who is Luke's grandfather."
In terms of on the field, both the minor and senior league clubs will be taking the field with under 6s and under 8s at 9am.
In seniors there will be league tag, under 18s and A-grade.
Peterson coaches the under 18s and said they are looking forward to the game.
"It has been a bit of a stop-start season so if we can have a good hit out on the weekend and get some momentum going into the following week of semi-finals," he said.
"Ladies are starting to find some form at the right time of the year which is good so hopefully they can chalk up another win on the weekend and take that momentum with them into the semi-finals.
"Hopefully first grade can chalk one up as well because the Boomerangs will be travelling over the following week for the major semi so hopefully we can get the first win up and build on that for the following week and get the grand final at home."
The A-grade team will be wearing retro jerseys, modelled on the jersey worn by the 1989 grand final-winning side.
After the conclusion of the matches, the jerseys will be auctioned off at the Services Club with proceeds going back into Old Boys' charities.
