Despite the relentless drought, the committee was keen to provide an event where locals and competitors could come together, take a break from the pressures at home and have a good time.
Saturday night's rodeo certainly delivered, with a huge local crowd turning out to support the event, which featured the Taylor's Transport and Heavy Haulage Junior Rodeo, followed by the Country Wide Property 'Raindance Rodeo' Open event.
Although the event failed to inspire some rain, it did provide some great entertainment as competitors battled it out against some fierce broncs and bulls provided by Gill Bros. Rodeo.
Two days of campdrafting action commenced Saturday morning, with two additional events added to utilise a surplus of cattle caused by the Gwydir Highway closure blocking many coastal competitors.
Campdraft committee president, Tim Grob, said although it was a smaller event than usual, it was well supported, particularly by locals.
"Despite the drought and road closures, our committee worked hard to bring this event to life," he said.
"We were very fortunate to have the support of many generous businesses in town through their sponsorship, and the number of local and regional people who came for the Rodeo on Saturday night was beyond our expectations.
"A huge thanks goes to our cattle donors, including Ben Thompson, the Trow Family, the Lynn Family, Brian Winter, the Matthewson Family, the Dunn/Neville family, and Beau Colley - without their generous donations, the event would not have gone ahead."
