The Highlanders were joining the newly-formed Sport UNE Football League but couldn't get the players.
The Glen Innes and District Football Association announced juniors will not be taking the field this season and the senior group expected to followed suit.
"At this stage Highlanders will not be nominating a team in the UNE comp this year due to lack of interest in the late comp," they said on their Facebook page on June 23.
"I'm planning on playing games every second Saturday for seniors in Glen as a social comp for those keen."
After putting the call out, he club didn't get the numbers required to field a bare minimum of one team in the competition.
"Unfortunately this year we won't be putting a soccer side in, I couldn't get enough interest," captain-coach Rob Ferris said.
"By the time the new comp came around, nobody was keen to play right through to November.
"That is about it for us guys.
"We looked like we might have got one team but then a few of those guys pulled out so we just canned it for this year.
"And we haven't got a home ground to play on this year, our home ground is getting done up, so we will get our home ground done up and hopefully put in two or three teams next year.
"The club are hopeful they will be back up and running next year."
