Penguin coach Chris McDonald says his side will not be using injuries as an excuse when they face the Burnie Dockers at West Park in round 12 action on Saturday. The Two Blues have been the receiving end of a wretched run of serious injuries to senior players, with McDonald adding to the list in the first weekend of the split round with a knee injury in the shock loss to Latrobe. McDonald said he was yet to find out how long he will be placed on the club's growing injury list for, but he was looking at the positive aspect of being able to blood new players to senior football to fill the void throughout the year. "I am booked in Monday for a scan, I couldn't get one on the Coast for a month and we will know more then," he said. "I have done a lateral ligament before, not an ACL, but I knew I had done something and I just have to wait and see what the results are. "We just haven't been able to find continuity within the senior side, but on the flip side as another door shuts, another one opens and we have been able to give some chances to some of the young guys. "It is definitely going to benefit us in the coming years." McDonald felt Saturday's clash with the Dockers was going to be a test for his side, but he was hopeful some of his younger players would make the most of the opportunity. "It is going to be a challenge, but it is something we are really looking forward to. With a young group, playing against a lot of quality players is something you should really look forward to and really pick things up off their games. "It is good development for our guys to play against those players that have state footy or at VFL level in the past because they have learned things there too." Related: The Two Blues only made one change from the loss with McDonald going out, replaced by debutant AJ Fowler. McDonald said Fowler will give the side some physicality after coming into the club after moving from Victoria. "AJ is making his club debut, definitely not a senior football debut for him. He is new to the area and we are pretty excited after he has played some really good football in the reserves over the last few weeks. "He gets his opportunity this week and he will be a bigger body for us around the ball, it is something we have been lacking a little bit and he will spend time in defence and pinch hit in the midfield." Saturday's game between the Dockers and Two Blues will also have extra meaning for goal umpire Steve Willcox, who will reach a combined playing and umpiring milestone of 400 games after playing 228 games with Penguin. At the Ulverstone Recreation Ground, Ulverstone will look to create some breathing space in third on the ladder when they host the fourth-placed Devonport. In the other game, Wynyard will try to remain on top of the ladder when they welcome the fifth-placed East Devonport to the Wynyard Recreation Ground. The games starts at 2.20pm.
