Well-known electric car pioneer Howard Eastwood and Glen Innes mayor Steve Toms experienced a Tesla Model S 90D electric car last Wednesday.
The car is owned by electric car enthusiast Richard McNeall, who made the trip via the Thunderbolts Way with an electric three-phase charging point that Mr Eastwood had set up in Gloucester some years ago.
Back in 2009, Mr Eastwood’s electric car was the first all-electric new car to be built in Australia and by 2010 he had completed 10,000km.
Nowadays, the Tesla car has 660Nm of torque and is capable of 0-100kph in 4.6 secs.
Mr McNeall drove his electric car around Australia last year and claims to be the first to drive an electric vehicle around Australia without carrying a generator.
“[Today] there are almost 3000 electric cars in Australia and they are travelling all over the country,” Mr McNeall said.
