There will be twelve draws on the Saturdays leading up to Christmas.
The system is simple: spend more than $20 in a participating shop (indicated by a prominent poster), leave your name and contact details on a docket and place it in one of six bins around town.
If your docket comes out in the draw, you take a prize of a $250 to be spent in one of the participating enterprises.
Your docket stays in for remaining prize draws, win or lose the first time, so early entry means a greater chance of winning.
It’s the tenth time this initiative by the Business in Glen forum has happened. “It’s great to have something like this in the town”, said Moira Munro of Timbs Pharmacy,
“It’s amazing how much you can buy here if you have a look”.
Many of the participants are stores on Grey Street but motels and nurseries from further away are also involved.
Moira Munro, one of the organisers of the initiative, said the prize money was designed to stay within Glen Innes.
For the prizes. the council gave $5,000, White Rock Wind Farm, $2,500, The Glen Innes Severn Tourist Association and Best Employment, $500 each. The rest came from Business in Glen and last year’s surplus.
