A special fund-raising night at the Services Club raised more than $21,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
“Dancing for the Chopper” was put on by the Glen Innes and Severn Volunteer Group and involved a lot of dancing, movement and laughter in a good cause.
The centre-piece of the event was a dancing competition involving six couples.
Each couple had raised sponsorship through social media so there was an award to the one which had raised the most money, and this went to Allysha Hodges and Anthony Buckley.
The prize for the best choreographed dance routine and performance went to Sam Schiffmann and Amelia Tunamena.
Other money was raised through raffles, with prizes donated by businesses.
The organiser of the event, Nikki Lee, said: “The event was absolutely massive and so well supported by our community. We are incredibly appreciative of all the dancers as well as the businesses and individuals who contributed with their donations.”
The prizes were presented by Adam Marshal, MP for the Northern Tablelands.
He said afterwards: “It was a great night with more than 300 people there. It was a sell-out, just a huge night.
“It was typical of Glen Innes. When there’s a worthy cause, the community turns out.
“That’s the hall-mark of Glen Innes.”
