New England Weeds Authority officer James Browning warns landholders to be on the lookout.
“We’ve had a dry spring in the last two years, pasture levels get down and it allows weed invasion to come through more readily,” Mr Browning said.
“That allowed a lot of serrated tussock to pop up, we’re starting to see a lot of it this year.”
Local Land Services and the New England Weeds Authority have spent close to $750,000 trying to control Tropical Soda Apple in the Macleay Valley region this year.
It’s a state declared weed in the elimination category, with hopes the plant will be eradicated in five to ten years.
Originating in Florida, America, it’s believed the plant was transported here on a harvester, or infected cattle.
