Northern Tablelands MP, Adam Marshall, presented the keys to SES Local Controller, Sarah White.
He described the vehicle as a “powerful tool for combating nature’s worst”.
He said the $179,000 purpose-built light response vehicle would “allow our local SES volunteers to respond to the devastation caused by storms, floods, hail and wind more effectively and safer than before.”
Responsibility for the vehicles has only just passed from councils to the state government (in which Mr Marshall serves). Some SES units said their vehicles were ancient and inadequate under the previous system.
Mr Marshall said this vehicle was “a major change of tack from older vehicles supplied by councils”. It “demonstrates that the NSW Government is committed to providing our SES volunteers with state-of-the-art equipment.”
