The Department of Education says they are: Thomas Macansh, Eleanor Malone, Lachlan Martin, Mitchell Taylor, Emily Walmsley and Rhiannon Kemp
The definition of Distinguished Achiever is: “students who have received a top band result in one or more course”.
But the school was not in the top 150 in the state. On top of that, the success rate has fallen from 4.26 per cent to 2.94% (High Scores as a percentage of entries). This is below the success rate of the average school in the state – in other words, it was in the bottom half of the range of all NSW schools with students taking HSC exams.. There were 48 HSC students at Glen Innnes this year compared with 35 last year.
Where schools are in the range and the percentage of High Scores has to be treated with care because schools in prosperous areas may do better anyway. And if a school is keen that lots of people try exams they might not be certain of doing well in, then the average goes down.
On Tuesday, the school held a Presentation Day at the Town Hall where awards for all sorts of excellence were presented by Local MP, Adam Marshall and other dignitaries.
On top of the High School honours, a student from Glen Innes was among the high achievers in this year’s HSC at The Armidale School.
Saxon Hughes of Glen Innes was on the Distinguished Achievers List for Band 6s in three subjects..
The department’s Director, Frank Potter, congratulated all 2017 graduates from New England, saying that there were “some wonderful results that will open doors and enable the graduates to fulfill their aspirations”.
“I join with the parents and teachers who are rightfully proud of their students’ achievements at the conclusion of 13 years of schooling.”
