She sees the arts scene in the town as vibrant, with a host of different sorts of galleries, both commercial and non-commercial, and she wants the established, formal gallery to expand its role as part of the over-all scene.
She said: “New members are essential if the Glen Innes Art Gallery is to continue to fulfill its mission to increase cultural awareness and activity in the community and attract visitors, tourists and permanent residents.
“For the past year the Committee has been operating with reduced numbers to provide a range of very successful and exciting exhibitions and events. We now seek fresh enthusiasm and ideas from the community to ensure a continued focus on its objectives.
”The current art scene is vibrant, diverse and exciting and so much ‘more’ than it was a few years ago. It is time to review the current role of the Glen Innes Art Gallery to ensure it meets the changing needs of the community, local artists and art-lovers.”
She added that being involved was fun, a way of meeting interesting people and a way of developing skills and helping an important part of Glen Innes life. People could bring different skills – like writing, taking pictures, promotion – and they would all be useful.
