They were called just before six o’clock and found the grass fire near the disused railway well alight.
The cause is being investigated. There had been rain recently in the area though not on the day of the fire.
The statement from the brigade said: “An area of grass was found burning from the railway line into a vacant paddock.
“The decision was made to allow the fire to burn and the Hazmat Composite was called to assist in putting in a controlled burn of the rest of the paddock to prevent any further fires from happening.
“Police were in attendance and assisted in traffic control during the burn, and are investigating the cause of the fire.”
