The problem was a fierce wind, at a speed of 40 kilometres per hour from the west so the fire jumped the Glen Legh road in three spots.
Council workers and vehicles helped by pushing and pulling down burning trees.
A statement said: “A request for assistance from the RFS was sent as the fire jumped the Glen Legh Road and was burning towards a house and sheds.
“The fire was eventually brought under control by quick actions from two Fire & Rescue NSW appliances and three RFS units and was finally extinguished around 17:30 hours. The fire burnt out around 15 hectares of land.
“No buildings were damaged by fire and the cause of the fire is being investigated.”
Captain Earl Sharman of the fire brigade in Glen Innes also warned about the dangers stemming from the current cold weather.
He urged people to take care with charging mobile phones and tablets. There have been instances of people in the state putting them under their pillow at night and then a bed fire starting.
He also said people should take care when heating bags of rice to warm the bed.
